That’s the design of the new FieldTurf that will soon be installed at Notre Dame Stadium, ending the tradition of Notre Dame playing on a field that looks like that empty, overgrown lot at the end of your block.

There aren’t any drastic changes to what the design used to be, as the diagonal lines in the end zone will return, but there will be the interlocking “ND” logo at midfield as well as a couple of shamrocks at the 35-yard line.

“The interlocking ND is the most recognized symbol of our University and its athletics programs, and we wanted to communicate that to our fans and all those viewing our home games on NBC,” said Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick in a release. “The integration of the shamrocks allows us to achieve consistency across all of our new or recently renovated facilities where both the interlocking ND and a shamrock have a presence on the playing surface.”

The first game on the new turf will be played Aug. 30 when Notre Dame hosts Rice to open its season.
