Free agency in college football, formally known as the transfer portal, where players are able to transfer to another school to keep playing and studying, the transfer portal has allowed many players too keep their college careers alive and in some cases, to be even more successful at they’re new school.
Here are many notable players who have been through the transfer portal in recent years.
Joe Burrow, Ohio State to LSU
Jalen Hurts, Alabama to Oklahoma
Kyler Murray, Texas A&M to Oklahoma
Baker Mayfield, Texas Tech to Oklahoma
Justin Fields, Georgia to Ohio State
Taulia Taigovailoa, Alabama to Maryland
The latest name to join that list of transfer hopefuls is what many considered is the best player of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, WR J.D Spielman, he has entered the transfer portal and has left the team in a “mutual agreement” between Spielman and the Nebraska football team, according to 247sports.

This presents a tough situation to an offense that is already struggling and struggled last year, their QB situation is still to be determined, and if Spielman’s transfer is made oficial, this will leave Scott Frost’s offense with a very young and inexperienced group of WRs, Spielman was by far the number one receiver in Nebraska, and his transfer could really affect the Huskers offense.
Spielman had 3 good years at Nebraska, and even coming close to breaking some records by a Nebraska WR, in his 3 years at Lincoln, Spielman had 170 catches, 2,546 yards and 15 TDs, he was also a kick and punt returner and scored 3 TDs.
If Spielman does transfer, it will mean that Nebraska will have to play without his best player and will add more pressure to a team that is already under a lot of pressure for this 2020, no doubt this transfer could affect Nebraska a lot and could determine how their season could go, if they will finally live up to the expectations or underachieve like last year.
