El fútbol americano es una representación de la vida, incluso de la social y política. México pasa por una etapa en la que la división reina, pobres contra ricos, fifís contra trabajadores, evolución contra la regresión y tristemente hombres contra mujeres. En EU la retrogresión se está efectuando arrebatando el derecho al aborto, cazando los géneros que no entren en el sistema político-religioso, aplastándolos. En ese sentido México y Estados Unidos nos parecemos, el deporte de las tacleadas no es equitativo para las mujeres ni aquí ni allá. 

THE DREAM OF THE MEXICO WOMEN’S TACKLE FOOTBALL NATIONAL TEAM WON’T BE FORGOTTEN

American football is a representation of life, including social and political life. Mexico is going through a stage in which division reigns, poor against rich, fifis against construction workers, evolution against regression, and sadly, men against women.

In the US, retrogression is taking place by taking away the right to abortion, hunting down genders that do not enter the political-religious system, crushing them. In that sense, Mexico and the United States are alike, the sport of tackling is not equitable for women here or there.

La NFL no reconoce a su contraparte la WFA, sin embargo se llena de orgullo cuando tienen ex jugadoras de esta liga como coaches en sus filas. En México la federación le dio la espalda a la selección nacional femenil y las dejó sin vuelos para llegar a su primer compromiso del mundial de mujeres en Finlandia. Nunca llegaron y Gran Bretaña ganó por forfeit. Por esa derrota México concluyó en 5to lugar Mundial. Se cerró el mundial femenil de fútbol americano y las chicas de Estados Unidos se llevaron la medalla de oro porque no hubo quién le diera pelea como México lo pudo haber hecho. E.U. venció a Gran Bretaña 42-14.

American football is a reflection of life. Both in Mexico and in the United States there are no guarantees for women, there is not enough protection, enough shoulder pads and helmets to protect them in a world where El Machín reigns, where the machine leads, what is happening in college football in Mexico is history. It’s a pride, we’re about to see the first woman playing college football in Mexico, however, there was no lack of former players and fans who were very macho and opposed Andrea Martínez being part of the Pumas 2022 freshman class.

Alguna vez existió un jugador de gran talla de los Pumas (CU) de la Universidad, que con orgullo llevo el balón con el #32, -como en aquel mural de la biblioteca de la UNAM que lleva inscrito a Manuel Neri con el número 13-, es difícil creer que ese corredor que como él mismo lo menciona, fue un levanta tribunas, perdió el balón con la selección femenil en el peor momento, en un año 2022 de cambios, de protestas en contra de las agresiones hacia las mujeres y feminicidios, de coraje, de agallas femeninas porque ellas defenderán con los dientes lo que les pertenece, sus derechos tal y como lo hacen por sus hijos.

Mexico’s victory in which they won the gold medal (in flag football) at the World Games in Birmingham, Alabama was the prelude to a great war in Finland where 5 teams were going to give everything and die in the trenches, 45 Mexican warriors left with pride split in two, like the hit with a paddle on the back at noon in the University of Mexico Pumas hazing that this year saw for the first time a woman being painted as Captain America, a tradition that was born from the fifties when muddy tar covered the freshmen in their initiation.

De chapopote se ha embadurnado la federación porque se esmeraron en romper los sueños de unas niñas, lo intentaron pero no pudieron. Esto es lo que hace brillante a esta historia, una historia para la posteridad porque este va a ser un parteaguas para ver quién va a ver por las mujeres. ¿Acaso vamos a seguir con una Federación de hombres que decidan por las mujeres? 

¿Cuándo les vamos a dar la oportunidad a mujeres a que también se integren en este equipo?¿Qué plan es mejor para que vean por el bien de las mujeres? Aquí se trata no solamente de un presidente sino de un equipo de trabajo que no vio por los intereses de las seleccionadas. 

What plan is better for them to see for the sake of women? Here it is not only about a federation president but about a work team that did not look out for the interests of the selected players.

Como en una novatada de los Pumas, así, con heridas en la piel y en el corazón, ‘¡Saca el pecho cabrón!, ¡Te voy a reventar!’ Así fueron pegadas y tableadas estas niñas y aún así con ese coraje y esas ganas de triunfar se armaron de gran valor. 

With all certainty, i affirm that this 2022 Mexico women’s football team is just as badass as the 1947 Mexican stars who heroically defeated Randolph Field in the Sports City Stadium with Pumas players like Omar Cardona in the QB, ‘Pocho’ Herrera, and Polytechnic players like Uriel González, El ‘Pibe’ Vallari, Salvador ‘Tarzán’ Saldaña.

En ese juego estaban abatidos al medio tiempo y el coach ‘Tapatío’ Méndez le dijo a sus jugadores: “Cuando sientas que te explotan los pulmones, las piernas ya no pueden, los brazos no pueden parar al enemigo, haz un esfuerzo extra, porque hoy además de la Universidad, Politécnico, el Heroico Colegio Militar, el Mexico City College y Wachachara ¡Ustedes están jugando por nuestra Patria, por México!”, y en eso agarró su bandera, la sacudió y todos se fueron a partírsela para llevarse el 1er Tazón de Plata, venciendo a un Randolph Field que tenía a un Doc Blanchard, All America, Campeón nacional con Army y ganador del Trofeo Heisman.

That’s right, this was the year that Mexico was going to go for that victory as Randolph Field. The girls were willing to face and give the United States a revenge in Finland. They would go anywhere to face them, literally anywhere, in Greenland, at the North Pole, wherever. Mexico was going to look for them and they prepared to face them and they couldn’t find them, they were deceived, they were beaten down before the war started, their hearts were just as broken as in 2017 when they couldn’t play the final against the United States, that’s why this was the moment.

Por eso esto que está pasando ahorita es trascendental, es histórico porque nunca nadie, ningún equipo seleccionado de México había sido tan lastimado y nunca antes hubo un equipo qué hubiera respondido tan fuerte como estas chicas, las Niñas Héroes quisieron hacer historia y lo hicieron, no como en el triunfo contra Randolph Field. Pero ellas cruzaron espacios y dimensiones porque el fútbol americano de mujeres viene desde las épocas del Flag. 

Far from 2022, from this futuristic era, women have been playing since the brilliant era of the 1970’s where the Yescas, the Pumitas and the Politas engaged in impressive flag football duels. Women’s football has more history than the leaders imagined. 

Y esos hombres de la federación no lo entienden, no lo pudieron entender, no lo pudieron comprender, no las pudieron comprender, aún así ellas partieron al cielo, al infinito, a las nubes como soñadoras, porque es ahí donde están sus sueños. No llegaron a su primer juego y aún así buscaron vuelos, llegaron a Ginebra, llegaron a París y con el espíritu y la bandera de México en la mano llegaron a Helsinki para hacer lo que soñaron, partirse la cara por su país, partírsela por México, en tiros uno contra de uno. 

Working their rear off for their country, working their asses off for Mexico in one-on-one duels, giving helmet hits, sticking their shoulder, sending an opponent to the ground, dominating, laughing, enjoying, playing, winning, making their dreams come true, (imaging) scoring in a game by the gold medal, catch that pass, put it down with both feet inside the end zone and yell ‘we did it!’.

No sé qué jugada era con la que soñaban o cuál era el marcador que vislumbraban pero lo que fue claro y no había duda es de que México iba a enfrentar a Estados Unidos por la medalla de oro, por eso es tan relevante el triunfo de la selección de México de flag femenil ante Estados Unidos 39 a 6 en Alabama, fue una dominación absoluta, la tarea para este mundial iba a ser más difícil que ese juego de flag football pero ellas estaban listas para el reto, ellas lo demostraron en el campo, vinieron como guerreras. Cómo jugadoras y soldados…¡Mexicanas al grito de guerra!, batallando en las trincheras.

And that is how they arrived with their weapons broken but with a well-placed spirit, with the courage and gallantry of (these) women who once again were silenced and there is no better way  to speak than on the field, on the gridiron and not in the press conferences, the words, the excuses, all that comes out too much, but the testimony is there and you can see it right now.

Vean con qué coraje pelearon estas guerreras, llegaron con una estrategia apabullante a sacudir y destrozar a la defensiva y ofensiva de Australia, el marcador fue 34-6 y después llegó el juego emotivo, el juego contra Alemania que las iba a colocar en la historia en un pedestal, en un podio imaginario, porque así es como todos las vemos a ellas, en ese podio de ganadores.

 With or without a medal they will be in our hearts for life because believe me, there is no better lesson to learn about the meaning of this sport than this story, that year after year will become great because year after year they will know who these players were.

Empezando por la número 33, Andrea Romero, líder y corredora de este equipo que estaba lista para llevarlas a la victoria, era el día en el que esto iba acabar, era un sentimiento de alegría y amargura, cómo las mismas chicas del flag football lo expresaron (Sheilla Silva #1, Mónica Rangel #4 y Ana Rojano #15), son las emociones que están ahí antes del último juego del torneo, la última vez que este grupo estará unido.

“Estábamos motivadas vivas, nos agarramos la mano, hubo lágrimas porque sabíamos que esto iba a ser la última vez”.

It was time to go to the gridiron, it was the game in which they were going to go out and give everything, it was a splendid day and in front of them they had the perfect enemy dressed in black with a black helmet, Germany, and on this side the warriors of the race of bronze, determined to give everything to show that they are the best, to have fun, to show with great technique and courage what are they made of, offensive line, defensive line, running backs, receivers and cornerbacks, heroic warriors who were present from the beginning and they did not stop crushing, advancing and crushing enemies.

Vino el momento de la primera anotación, Paulina Díaz Díaz (4) mandaba un pases sensacional de 15 yardas a Marlene Gutiérrez (11), la ofensiva de Alemania seguía peleando pero su creatividad no era tan amplia como la de el equipo mexicano. Ahí se escapaba nuevamente Andrea Romero, la fenomenal corredora número 33 que en cada oportunidad mostraba su talento, en carreras por fuera, cortando y regresaba al centro, 

She found the lanes built by her offensive line, and there is no one who would have done it better, those were heroic plays, accurate passes, an offensive display and a defensive attitude that was to put pressure, the number 77 reigned in the defensive attack, doing a job heroic, staying disciplined in her gaps and tackling, defensive ends pressing, the 57th LB reading.

México a la ofensiva no se detenía, esta vez Romero se escapaba 37 yardas para otro touchdown, era el turno de Alemania y se puso al tiro, respondió, atacó, pero México regresó con Ángela Cruz lanzando un pase de 3 yardas a Tania García para el tercer touchdown de México. 

En una tarde resplandeciente con las familias mexicanas apoyando, ellas estaban ahí con su uniforme impecable, ellas habían dado todo, hicieron todo lo que ellas tenían que haber hecho. Posteriormente Ana García manda pase de 11 yardas a Diana Cárdenas y le arrancó la media luna a la jugadora alemana y la bajo para el 28 a 0.

Las muchachas de la selección femenil de futbol americano cumplieron, triunfaron cada vez que estuvieron en el emparrillado porque ellas sabían que eran las mejores, al menos mejores que Canadá y Gran Bretaña, el duelo contra Estados Unidos iba a ser el tiro para marquesinas, ese juego terminó siendo una interpretación surrealista, cruel y sentimental, tal como la película Viridiana de Luis Buñuel aunque Los Olvidados queda mejor. 

The duel against the United States was going to be the shot for marquees, that game ended up being a surreal, cruel and sentimental interpretation, just like the movie Viridiana by Luis Buñuel although Los Olvidados is better. 

De esta parafernalia en blanco y negro esperamos que emerja una evolución, esta fue la tragicomedia más grande y devastadora que se ha vivido en el fútbol americano de Mexico para una selección mexicana.

This was the biggest and most devastating tragicomedy ever experienced in football in Mexico for a Mexico national football team.

En 1947 México venció a Randolph Field con jugadas vibrantes del ‘Pocho’ Herrera, Omar Cardona y el ‘Pibe’ Vallari. En este 2022 las guerreras mexicanas a la defensiva y la ofensiva demostraron una técnica impecable, una forma de salir y ganar la batalla a como dé lugar, llegando a como dé lugar, 

Representing a country with their blood and courage, feeling proud because they know that this story inspired many girls to be the next player soldiers of Mexico in the future, and those girls will be part of the Mexican team that will compete in the Women’s World Championship in 5 years.

Esta derrota de la Federación Mexicana de Futbol Americano y esta entrega de balón infame han convertido a las jugadoras de la selección de México en unas santas. El último juego como equipo para las seleccionadas en Alabama, fue muy emocional, fue la misma sensación para las chicas en Finlandia, pero de una forma devastadora porque a diferencia de las muchachas de flag, quienes ganaron la medalla de oro, ellas no tuvieron esa oportunidad.

Unlike the flag girls who won the gold medal, they did not have that opportunity. All because of a plane that could not take them to fly high and for that reason, and despite everything, these players will not descend into oblivion.

Todo por un avión que no pudo llevarlas a volar alto y por esa razón. Y a pesar de todo, estas jugadoras no descenderán en el olvido.
